Potholes

I've spotted a particularly deep and wide pothole in the lower end of Silverdale Avenue. I am reporting this to the Council and asking that they repair this urgently.

Warriors Pool - gone, but not forgotten

It's nearly 3 years since the Conservative Administration of Southend Council closed and got rid of our town centre public swimming pool, ignoring the impassioned pleas of swimmers and 2 public petitions totalling over 1,600 signatures. It still saddens me to see our town centre void of swimming facilities. I strongly feel that we should have retained a pool, and have added other sports facilities too, as part of a diverse and vibrant town centre, particularly as we have the University Campus and College in the heart of Southend.

Out and about in Westborough

Out and about in Westborough meeting residents and collecting more signatures for no29 Bus Petition.
The more residents I speak to, the more I know they need the no29 to run later in the evenings, as do residents from outside Westborough who visit them.

Council Advice Surgery

I will be holding my Council Advice Surgery this coming Wednesday, 25th September, between 12.30 and 1.30pm at the Labour Office, 268 Sutton Road (a few yards from the Greyhound Shopping area and Mecca Bingo, near the town centre).

So, if you have a Council-related problem or there is a local issue you would like to discuss with me and haven't yet met me whilst I've been out and about in Westborough ward, please feel free to pop in and see me, this Wednesday lunchtime. No appointment necessary.

Bus Campaign.

Good news - Arriva have responded in the Yellow Advertiser to my launch of our Bus Campaign for an improved no29 bus service by stating that they would be willing to trial a later evening service if there is sufficient demand. This is where our petition can make a real difference - the more signatures the better. If you know anyone who has not yet signed, and think they would like to, please tell them about the petition. To those who have already signed - a big 'thank you!'

Community in Harmony event

I visited and took part in the Southend Community in Harmony event in Priory Park today. It was very enjoyable meeting people of different faiths, and people from various local charities and other community-related organisations. It was a lovely event.

Litter

On Friday I spotted a large amoubt of litter and a dumped mattress in Fairfax Drive. I contacted Southend Council and was promised it would be removed within 24 hours. I noticed that the litter had been removed by later that day. The mattress has since been removed to.

Out and about in Westborough

I've been out and about in Westborough ward this week with local Labour Team, meeting residents. Met  some nice people, and discussed ways to improve things for Westborough residents. Got signatures on my petition for my campaign to improve the no29 bus service; the petition was so popular that there was even a small queue of passers-by waiting to sign at one point.
